Good on you Sushi saving the iggys...not touching the should you/should you not buy that sick herp at the LPS debate though.
The scarring should (mostly) shed off. I had a rescue ig (free from Petco; it was a return) that had some pretty ugly belly burns - that's what having only a hot rock for heat will do. Anyway after a few sheds they were mostly gone, and a couple of years later you wouldn't be able to tell she had burning at all. I never expected her to live, and she turned out to be the best iggy I've ever kept.
And I'm with Vicious - no igs in the LPS is the answer. Certainly not in low-end/chain-type stores. Of course that will never happen, because they're cheap and cute, but honestly the green iguana is probably one of the least suitable of the commonly available large lizards for home.
