most overly filtered tank thread!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
for ****s and giggles me and my cousin hooked his Fluval 405 up to a 5 gallon tank to see the outcome (no fish were present in the tank nor injured during this retarted trial) the flow in the tank was rediculous haha looked like a sandstorm

I wanted to use one of my AC50s for a newborn lab tank so to make up for it I added an AC110 to my 20g growout. It now has an AC110, AC50, and two sponge filters. The tank is pretty crowded and they're all over 2.5" so it's not too much water movement. I actually like it cause I can drop food in the back where there's a hole and they still get fed in the front. It's pretty awesome.

My 125, which isn't even heavily stocked, has 2 FX5s and a 2028 on it. The 2028 is sort of the roving canister, going to whatever tank needs it. It'll step in and provide bacteria for a 110 for a while shortly while I start a new W/D from scratch, for instance. But for now, 3 biofiltration factories sit on a tank where one would work just fine.

In my opinion if water paramaters are good, then no over filteration is needed. There is no point adding additional filters if your water tests are already rock bottom. I have about 10 tanks atm that are 55-180 gallons and I have found that 10x is optimal. I had a massively overstocked 55 gallon that I ran 2 AC110s on and it was crystal clear. I had to put a ton of large fish in there while I waited to get my new tank that was on back order.

this thread is for people with overfiltered tanks... not people who think its useless... please dont derail

He is just stating the truth. THis thread is letting everyone know you(as in members with over filtered tanks) have little to no concept of proper filtration. Unless its a temp solution.

Overfiltering is usless :)

and that is off topic in this thread so that means that both posts are derails.

my 55 gallon now has...
1 AC110
1 eheim 2215
1 undergravel filter
1 top fin 60 HOB (300GPH)
And a 300 GPH powerhead with sponge(and floss) attachment

Oh and a coral life twist uv sterilizer 18 (Waiting to move it on my future project)

Wow I have added quite a bit since I first checked in this thread

Oh and I ditched the aquatech 5-15 I was just using it cause it was from a matured aquarium of mine to cycle the 55
My 20 gallon has 2 100 GPH HOB's

My ten gallon has 184 GPH and an efficient eclipse filter

If we had little to no concept of proper filtration, why then are we referring the tanks to being "over" filtered? I am fully aware some of my tanks are pointlessly over filtered. I set up my tanks the way it pleases "me". So I think you know where you can take your comments.

I do understand you have a hard one for calculating proper filtration. So congratulations. You're the rainman of sumps. But it's obvious the people
participating in this thread dont need your opinion. So again, kudos for being able to figure out how to properly keep water clean.....You might get the pulitzer for that one....

125g with 2 Fx5's and 3 AC110's, 55g with 2 Fluval 405's and a wet/dry with a Rio1400 pump. This is not the permanent filtration for both these tanks though, I will probably spread these filters out a little when I add more tanks.
SUree.. If your anything like me those filters will remain :)
