I recently seen the most underrated fish in your opinion thread by KATALEKEEPER and it sparked up a really good conversation. I think this one will too.....

They're all great fish, lol. I think your thread would get a lot more action if you left it up to the individual to choose their own. Seen as i've started, my over rated fish choices are rays, arowanas and flowerhorns.

I actually find goldfish extremely underrated. If they are well cared for and in adequate setup, there aren’t many fish as “shiny” and personable as the goldfish.
To answer the q, imo the most overrated fish is the bumble bee catfish. The one I had never comes out and is always so reclusive.

I have to say African cichlids.
Oscars are mistreated, but definitely all that people say they are. Amazing fish in almost every way.
Goldfish don’t get enough respect. One of the smartest and most interactive fish there is, but always considered a stock dumb fish.
Piranhas are overrated in aggression, but once you realize they are not bloodthirsty killers, they are very fun and interesting.
African cichlids are beautiful, but don’t have anywhere near as much personality as American cichlids.

out of those options, I'd choose piranha. If I made the poll, I would have dropped the Goldfish and added Arowanas (all types).
