Most personable fish

bettas are actually huge wimps unless facing off with another betta or some gouramis. but you are correct with the puffers
 
ok well i ended up getting a little blue/black beta and a red flame gourami and blue gourami :)
i hope the betta does ok w/ them he is a bit smaller than the others
 
Definitely datnoids and stingrays

gouramis can be nippy. but so can bettas. they might do well together.

Let us know how it goes.
 
so far so good. i do have 2 minnows in my tank, that i had as feeders for my rope but they got too big for him to eat, and the betta enjoys chasing the larger one around even tho it is like 10x faster than he is and a lil bigger too lol

Agree. My AT's come out and greet me when I'm near the tank. My NTTs.. well the don't like me yet lol
 
I would go with convict I have a 5 inch pink male and he goes nuts when he sees me swimming at the glass he knows who feeds him hes like a dog in a tank but if you would get a bigger tank go with an oscar I had an oscar that loved it when I pet it
