Just wondering what is the most profitable breeders at a moderate difficulty level. Is there something out there that is fairly rare but seem to breed regularly?

Zebra plecos! Discus? Frontosa, Rays. Cory cats.

I agree with Discus, Frontosa, And rays. HOwever, not to drop your hopes, don't expect to become rich selling fish. Hard to make a living off of fish.

1st see what local fishstores will buy off you and what they will pay
1/3 :D , 1/4;) , 1/10:( of retail
also something small enough to ship

honestly if you just want to make a little $$$ grow plants you dont even need a tank just some buckets and sunshine

Good idea! And a little DIY co2 will only help. How awsome!

You have to find a proper ballance. If you go the rare route then the price per fish is a lot higher but the demand will be lower and the number of fish you can move much less. I'm trying my hand at Red bay snooks. Fairly good intrest by several LFS and I have a compatable pair that are spawning. One thing to keep in mind. about a year ago it was difficult to find a Pbass of any kind and now they seem to be available almost anywhere at lower prices.

I agree zebra plecos have the most potential right now but that could change fast and youd have to drop 1k or more on breeders to start.

If you don't have the capital to start with zebra plecs, you might want to give Endler's livebearers a shot. Easy to breed, small size for limited spaces/reduced shipping, and readily available. Average selling prices are around $15/adult pair.

There are many more things to look at other than just how much you can sell the fish for. There is also profit margins, length of time before you can sell the young, space, and demand. Corydoras species are a good seller, grow fast, are somewhat easy to breed, and are quite prolific. BN's can be good, but do not fetch much money. Frontosa are good, but they take up a lot of space. Discus are good, but you will need to get good discus to start with before you can have good young. Endler's are really good. Angels are really good... while they are moderate growth rate, they fetch good money, and are always in demand. They are one of the biggest sellers are many LFS, and if you get good parents, they will raise the young for you.

check your lfs for their kirb prices.

these guys breed very easily, and i've found many places sell them for around $6-$8 a piece. if they give you anything above 1/10 price, then these could be semi-profitable.

but really cherry shrimp are probably among the best in terms of ease and price.
