i know not SA or CA but bumble bee cichlids (crabro) males will turn jet velvety black when fully mature. not another color mark on them!

Black Devils are Amphilophus Sagittae. Like a stripped Midas with out a lot of color, more silver than black. I have seen some with nice green around the head though.

Amphilophus Zaliosus is probably the darkest out of that group of fish. Bleekeri or polleni are probably the best looking black base colored cichlids in my opinion

Hmm...I had what I think were some of the first A. sagittae and have never heard them called that. Kinda fitting though...mine was grumpy and had some big teeth. Wasnt what Id call black though...more barred than anything.

I think the neet is more of a "black devil" than the sag.

edit:/

I just went and read on them and it appears they get really dark when spawning.

Amphilophus sagittae is sold as a 'black devil' around these parts :P

P. polleni! They're lighter when younger but mature to a nice black. The difference between the bleekeri and polleni is overall spot size. Depends on what look you're going for.
