Hey TF your mota looks alot like a Loisellei. Where did you get him?

Glad I'm not the only one that was thinking that. I'm terrible at Parachromis and was hoping someone else would say something...

I got it from my lfs. It came in a bag of three fish, all were supposed to be managuense (jags). I asked the owner to order me a jag and he ordered three. One turned out to be a jag and the other two are like the one in this thread, one of which I bought.

I had wanted a jag, but due to all three 6" fish being in one bag, the jag was missing half his scales on arrival. I guess they weren't to happy with their close quarters during shipping.

I didn't even know the one I bought wasn't a jag until after I brought this fish home. I was at the store when they were unpacked and all three were totally white (I guess from the stress of combat and shipping). Thinking they were all three stressed out jags, I got the healthiest looking of the three.

It's really hard to nail down which Parachromis (loiselle, friedrichsthalii, or motaguense) this is as it's color is still changing. After the white faded in my tank, it was olive. With each day, a little more yellow comes in. I'm starting to see the tiniest tinge of red on the anal fin. I really wish he would start eating some of that Biogold so I can really see some true colors (that stuff is pretty awesome, by the way).

I've been looking at dozens of images of Parachromis loiselle, Parachromis friedrichsthalii, and Parachromis motaguense to try and figure out exactly what this fish is. The general consensus in another thread was that it is a mota (regular, not Red Tiger) , which is what I've been calling it. To add to the confusion, I can't find out any information on a 'regular' mota, only the Red Tiger.

Besides the not eating much, which I'm sure will likely work itself out, any positive id help is greatly appreciated. I'll try and get some more photos up and see if it helps. Thanks again.:)

These shots werre taken today. Check them out and see if you see hints of red.

we just get some from the garden give them a rinse and drop them in whole.

your right in some cases there hard to nail down between mota's, freddies and loiselli, but from the new pics all that developed yellow does make it seem to be more of a loiselli, these fish are very hard to judge when newly being acclimated being that the colors change with moods, and there moods change rapildly as the get acclimated, take some more pics in a couple weeks, but because all of the seeming red dissapered from when the first pics were taken i have changed my vote to loiselli 50%/mota 50%.

Sometimes the red is there and sometimes not. If it turns out to have red on the sides and fins, does that make it a Red Tiger Mota?

Not sure about what species, but I know my Viejas love the earthworms. Like most everyone else just rinse them and feed.

Thanks again guys. I'm going to the gun shop in a little while to pick up some night crawlers. I'll report back after feeding time.:)
