Mota feeding suggestions...

Sorry to change the direction of the thread... It doesn't look like either type of Mota. It's not just the color but the body shape.

I hope I don't come off sounding like a D**k. I just like people to know what they have so when I can ID a fish positively, I do. If you attempt to breed this one at least you are on the right track to prevent a hybrid.

It's definitely a Loisellei. A good catch by the way.

Starve him for a few days and the pickyness will go away.

I agree. The head shape and mouth shape is off. I think it's a friedrichthalli though. Loiselleis have more iridiscent blue around the dorsal area and are somewhat higher-bodied than that fish.

I agree, that is a loisellei. I feed my mota, loisellei, and freddy either hikari bio-gold or new life spectrum large fish pellets. Also some krill on occasion.

No worries, I want to make sure exactly what I have as well.

So do loiselleis or friedricsthallis have any red on them at all? And how about some pictures of your guys loiselleis? All I can really compare with are Jeff Rapps' and the like.

I think for now, I'm going to have to agree with you and the others who have said 'loisellei'. How big or how far along did your loiselleis develop the more intense yellow color? Mine is about 6" now, but has only been in the tank for about a week and hasn't been eating anything but freeze dried bloodworms. It was nearly solid white when it arrived at the fish store from shipping, I had ordered a jaguar, lol.

The top photo is a loisellei in breeding coloration, which is especially yellow. That particular female was always quite yellow, though.

Give your fish some time to settle in the new tank, and it should brighten up.

I bought some cichlids a while ago sold as Red Tiger Motoguenses, but as they grew, they never got any red coloration. After having seen some of these pictures, I think there is a chance they are loisellis. What do you guys think? Here is a pic of one of the two I have left. Also, any guess on the sex?
