Motaguense info...

After a rocky start my little motaguense is growing and filling out... Don't see that many on here.... Who else is out there has any and how big are they and what was the growth rate....

I started with half dozen 1" fry, they hit @ 8"for the male and 6" for the female, in a year, although once the male eliminated all but his chosen female, they had a spurt, and spawned. I feed pellets and earthworms to predators, and did (do) 20%-30% water changes every day or every other day.

Thanks Duanes for the info......8 inches for a male in a year I can live with.. I started with one bought 2 more and the 3 total was in short time reduced to 2.... would have liked to had a pair but the one that appeared female was killed off, I believe it was a combo of sickness with the aggression.... at this time it looks like I have 2 males ... currently I am doing about a 75% water change once a week in a 75 gallon,....... thanks for showing the pics of yours they look great(I hope more people chime in and post theirs)....a pic like the last one of yours is what created a want of this species for me....

I have three 1.5yr old males from 7-9", a two year old 7" female who's paired with the largest male, and about 50 of their 3 month old 1-2" fry. I got the males in a group of five 1" fry from House64's old F1 pair. A few months later the dominant male randomly killed the only 2 females overnight, so I gave him his own tank until he caught up in size with the older female. Here's some pics

.... Yeah I think I'm going to have to move the smaller one to another tank or provide much more cover, before its too late..... It's currently being bullied by the larger one I believe the larger is the male the smaller one might be a male ... either way it's getting harassed.....
