Cant grab them or any butterflys from my understanding, only because once you grab their wings the powder that coats their wings is removed, thus they cant fly as well. At least this is what I have been told...

I was told that one too... I like that first one a lot.

You can handle them by gently holding their body between your fingers, (I've done it countless times) but its a veeeerrrrry delicate task! ;)
Though you really have to be rough on purpose to get enough of their wing powder to fall so that they have trouble flying... but they are still extremely delicate creatures! :)

Reminds me of a wonderfull childhood experience of mine! :)

I found this real big and plump fluorecent green caterpillar that looked like this http://members.mrtc.com/anvk/bugs/DSCN7892s.jpg
I found out what it ate (poplar tree leaves), fed it, and after a few weeks it made a cacoon (in a cardboard fruit basket! :D). Its really cool how they secrete a white liquid on their silk that hardens when exposed to air, making the cacoon hard and waterproof!
I placed it outside for the entire cold (-30 :naughty:) winter, when summer came I brought it into my room (my mother was so pissed and disgusted ).
I had no clue on what was going to hatch (or IF it would), and wanted it to remain a surprise. ;)

It hatched one summer night while I was watching tv, i found him before going to bed, his wings were still wet and he kept on flapping like crazy to dry em up! :) He was so gorgeous! He would climb along my arm and then beat his wings. My mom who had been "OMG get that disgusting insect cacoon thing outside" was like "ohhh its so beautiful!" ;).
He stayed on me during the whole few hours it took for his wings to be ready for flight, then he took off into the night.

This is what came out! ;)

I waited 10 MONTHS to finally see him with his wings, and, after a few hours spent with him, off he went and gone forever... sniff... :)
but it was totally worth it, for that one precious moment! ;)
