moto still alive

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no i was told to take them all out, but then someone said not to cause it would be like starting a new tank up, to push them to one side, i pushed them to one side atleast 10 times but the other ray ends up knocking them bk down i will put a divider in to stop that, and thanks i hope he is doing better to

oh and when there is a bare bottom he still goes onto the rocks spends most of the time on the rock will sand be better cause iam gonna get that this fri

Sand would be much better than the rocks. You could slowly take out like 1/4 of the rocks at a time and replace with sand if you are worried about your cycle. I would go with something along the lines of some sugar sand. You want some top quality stuff if you don't want irritation to the bottom of the ray's disc.

lol as long as u dont mess with ur filter i dont see how taking rock out would make tank not cycled. who told u that? as long as ur filters an all that are good taking out the rock shouldnt reset the tank. i have done this many times. but if u wanna be careful just take little by little

Agreed. It doesn't look like there's much rock in there anyway.

Glad the moto is doing better :)

I have never had a problem taking out the substrate in my tank. I recommended it before and I will again..take the rock out and go bare bottom until you get the sand. Ever stepped on that rock? It has jagged edges..Just My Opinion though. I do think he looks better and not as skinny as you were saying, so I think hes eating. Keep offering him small amounts of food at night that way if he doesn't eat it there isn't to much in there to mess up your water ( that is if your other ray doesn't scoop it up)

it was in another thread someone said not to take the rock out cause it would mess water up if theres no prob then i will just take it all out thanks for all ur help

That looks imo a littlebit more than just a heaterburn, maybe it is, and the tissue just has died and rotted away, but i can see a malawi back there, and they love to eat on others wounds. Malawi are nasty fishes, they love to irritate.

It would be good to get him on bare bottom but i don't think i would change to sand right away in fear of stressing him. A injured non eating ray may stress very easy. Hope it works out for you and the ray.

Ya, I remember someone telling him not to take out the rock after alot of us told him it would be better. He was worried about messing with the cycle of the tank after that. Moving the rock can cause alot of crap that is in the rock to come out and be in the water, making the water levels change, but will not hurt enough to matter. You could do a 30% water change after taking to rocks out in order to get all the crap floating around out. That would make a big difference. Just make sure your filter stays running and you will be fine.. Make since to anyone...lol
I would wait on the sand, but it is alot better than the rock you have in there. Bare bottom will be better for him rt now. Easier to keep clean and easier for him to find food. I would still also seperate him from the other tankmates. That way all the food you put in there is not being eaten by everyone else and he has a chance to get some as well.
glad he is better. I figured that is what his disc would do when starting to heal. Id never seen a burn like that happen, but have seen some rays with good bite marks and they heal the same way...
keep up the work and he will get better....
