Motor went bad on my whisper filter..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Like I said they have very close tollerances in the motor housing so if a tiny piece of sand gets in between the impeller magnet and the housing they do this. It's fairly common. I have several of those running on fry tanks with supercartrages in them

Mine do this occasionally, a good scrubbing and rinsing has always worked for me.

they don't suck up the fry? mine won't even suck up a small 1/6th" piece of fish poo. The only reason my tank looks half decent is because of my recently discovered sponge filter which I am in love with. Best $10 I have ever spent on my fish.. Now when I get my sponge filter that is suitable for up to 135g tomorrow and I throw it in my 60g I expect to never see a sick fish and/or cloudy water ever again.. I just have to make sure I get a big enough air pump to have the sponge filter work right. I have been looking at the "ViaAqua Million Air MA-600 Air Pump" for $12.99 online.

This is how they got a poor reputation for not restarting after a power outage. A small piece of crud would fall in and it wouldn't restart. Overall they are good filters. I did a write up on them in my This old filter blog. (shameless plug)

Yeah I read it. I'm going to pick up a pile of those super cartridges whenever I have the spare money. I just blew most of my fish money on a new emperor 400 that I should get in the mail tomorrow that I think I am overly hyped up about. I am putting it in my new 60g thats not set up yet. You think in comparison it will filter the 60g better than the whisper 30 filters my 30g? I'm preparing myself to be amazed but I'm not sure with the way you talk about your whispers..

I love the E400s and use supercartrages in all of them as well. I have 4 new E400's sitting behind me in boxes at the moment lol
I have 6 Hydro5's in the cabnet along with a dozen or so extra foams and 5 MA600's
you can never have too many spares...
OH i forgot the extra FX5 in the garage lol

you don't have to tell me but... Where the hell do you guys get the money for some of this stuff? Or do you spend about every dime you have on your fish? I mean I am only 19 and delivering pizzas for my spare cash but even when I get older I can't see myself having this much money to blow on my fish unless its like every penny I have.
