Can anyone tell me if this is a normal breathing speed for a resting Motoro?

im not an expert on rays but my motoro breathes like that after he pigs out on worms

Got a full tank shot? Do you have good surface agitation? What about a bubbler? What size tank and tankmates? Have you tested the water?

I have seen rays do that from lack of O2.

the other fish that i saw, also looks to be breathing heavy.

You are on the same track as myself. I thought the surface agitation is enough but I've lowered it a bit as an attempt to make my Frogbit plats more happy. I have no bubbler but I ordered one last weekend because I suspected lack of O2 and just want to verify my suspicions here.

Thanks for your quick reply!

x2!!! rays like plenty of oxygen!

Areation should slow the breathing rate to half its present rate. If it does not I would suspect your ray has gill flukes or another parasite.

I've increased the surface agitation now and hoping that my bubble maker is arriving tomorrow.

There is no oil slick on the surface right now.
