I started chopping the salmon into tiny pieces. This is working great. The pieces are too small for the Pbass to care, and the ray doesn't have to work so hard to eat them. I got a suggestion to send the salmon through a food processor, freeze it, and drop the frozen chunks in. Has anyone tried this?

i have with other foods..and had good luck... but its too much work so i went for other ways... i like least amount of food prep work... you have substrate so it will be harder but try sinking carnivor and small sinking cichlid pellets too... might be easy enough to just put the ray on pellets

The Pbass drop plenty of pellet food. The ray does go over them, but spits it out. Hopefully he'll recognize it as food at some point. I'm more worried right now about making sure he gets plenty of food to bulk him up. I'll put in the extra work in food prep as long as he keeps eating like a pig.
