I noticed a couple days ago a decrease in my motoros usually voracious appetite. Started not wanting to eat the market shrimp I always put in for her. I went and got some earthworms and she ate a few of those, but now it seems she is not interested in those.

Worst part is, she has now been staying in one location buried in the sand for the past 4 hours. She is breathing faster than usual, almost panting, and using only her left set of gills.

I've already upped temp to 82, done 50% water change, and added salt. Any suggestions? Any idea what might be wrong?

we need alot more info...

tank size?
tankmates?
filtration?
u feed live foods?

and a full water param check

Tank Size: 180 gallon
Tankmates: Black Aro, Pleco (never messes with her)
Filtration: Overflows, 40 gallon wet/dry sump with Magdrive 18 pump

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrates: 15
Temp:81

No live foods (except for worms I just got her), just thawed market shrimp.

Tank after a 50% water change: 7.0
Tapwater: 7.4

Could the heavy breathing be attributed to an abrupt change in ph from doing such a big water change??

yup...

i bet your ph was very low b4 the waterchange

i have had this prob b4 with ph swings, chlorine, and parasites.

Thanks for the info!

wow that sux. wish I hadn't done a huge wc now.

So out of all the rays you have had that started breathing heavy and showing a lack of appetite what is the percentage of those that made it through versus those that didn't??

just looking for a little light at the end of the tunnel lol
