Motoro (how big till mature?)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my little guy is like 6 inch and is wild. and on his feed he already has hook type things. so is he a man now ? lol and my female dnt have the hooks....experts ?

Here are some pictures of a mature male versus an immature male. (These are not my pictures so don't give me any credit for them!) :D

Picture one: Showing the immature male ray's claspers. (All male rays has these)

Picture two: Showing the mature male rays claspers.

As you can see the claspers on the mature male is much longer and is rolled, I hope this helped...BTW does MFK have a sticky on sexing rays? and telling if they are mature or not?

not to derail but what about females?

I've had one mature at just over 6 inches. Another at 7. Both rays seem to carry very slow growth rates.

I think this may be a clue in the overall size a ray will reach. Mature at a smaller size= smaller max size when fully grown. 10in or more before maturing = big ray when full grown. NOT sure at all if there's any truth to this or not. Just a theory.

seems like they are showing up mature at smaller sizes lately.

out of curiousity was yours captive breed or wild caught? might help to figure the riddle out in the future.

I'm not sure. I didn't ask when I bought it I really didn't care it was nice looking and that's what I wanted

If that's true I would be happy. I really wouldn't care if his disk never got over 12" but if it does I'll be happy too. He's a good ray. I'm happy with him.
