Ok tell me if this will work or will not work.

i've pickup up a 220 for my dining room yesterday and I am getting a gold dorado friday that's still very small 5" or so. And I'm thinking of getting one or two motoros for the bottom of the tank along with a catfish of some type.
So here's what I want to know:

All motoros are good beginer rays correct? Doesn't matter if they are marbled or not, they are still motoro
What is the best size to get them at? I'm thinking 8"+
Will they cohab with a gold dorado?
Is a 220 big enough for 2 motoros? (not long term but for how long)
What's the growth rate for these rays?
What are other good tankmates? (I'm thinking minimal tankmates but two or three oddballs)

Thanks for the help guys. if I can get the response I need I will be looking for some rays within a month. or less if I can get some more stuff sold.

OH and I forgot. Is there any aggresion issues if I get two males or two females. I'm not to interested in breeding I just want good patterns.

biggest problem with getting a bigger ray would be the size of ur dorado, i have never kept them so i dont know if the combo will work. a good size would be 6"+ and the only agression you will c from males would be if they get big enough that they mature they might fight a little, i would suggest two females, they are easier to get rid of when they get big enough to a breeder

talk to db junkie about what happens with dorados and rays........rays dont like characins.

the dorado won't even be a though in the 220 untill he's at least 8" So I don't think that will be an issue.

I'll look into that....

Any others that can take care of other questions I allready posted?

A 220 should be fine for a few years, maybe a few more depending on how fast they grow and the actual footprint of the tank. Better off building an indoor pond.

Motoros are great rays to start off with. They are affordable and hardy.
They are usually easily weaned onto different foods.
Growth rate depends on numerous factors (feeding, water changes, diet and temp)
They can reach a max size of 24 inches+.

Do lots of research beforehand. It pays off in the long run. Always go the extra mile.
Also, Vamptrev on here is selling Motoros for a great price in the classified section. Check it out!

Thanks. the tank is a standard 220 6x2x30" they will have something bigger in the long run but I'm going to condence down to this tank and my GATF growout. untill the economy settles down. I've looked into rays before and allways wanted to get a few but b/c my cats in the last big tank. I never had the room. And now that the cats are gone I want to do rays.

As for what I would get. I know it's more pricey but I would rather get something different then plain jane. I'm going to look at some marbles. and see what I can't come up with. I figure two run of the mill marbles or one REALLY nice one.

I think the dorado will be lunch if the rays you get are too big 8+. Rays can and do ambush and if that dorada happens to be napping at the bottom of the tank....well you figure it out. Motoros(any) can be extremely aggressive when it comes to food. I would recommend something other than a dorada.

Forget the dorado, the catfish will inhale the poor ray. Rays are too slow to out run a catfish.

Yes motoro is good starter ray, make sure your tank is cycled before adding any rays.

dorado will be a snack at that size... i had a 8" male eat a 7" atf...
