the motoros are both pritty fat, the humerosas came really thin and are slowly getting there... i think they came with some kinda parasite, because their escrements where greenish transparent, but now they are better... water condition is very good is this tank:D
 
even with aros in the tank i have always been a firm beliver that bare bottom has a part to play with drop eye

why anyone who keeps a home tank without i just dont understand

what is the pont in keeping a tank without substrate if its just to help keep the tank cleaner its rubbish i would love someone to show me a bare bottom tank thats cleaner than mine

rays turn the substrate over all the time kicking it up so its never dirty

richard if i was worried with drop eye, i whouldn't have got rays,who are a much bigger cause of drop eye. but this tank has 7 arowanas, and wen you have a lot of arowanas together they tend to look at each other and not to the bottom. i'm not saying it wont happend, but it's less likely to...


i have a lot of other tanks with subtract, even this one had it once, but the truth is i kinda like it better this way, and yes it is easyer to keep clean... i'm sure your tank is incredibly clean, miguel sayd so wen he came back with your ex aro, but i compare my tank with no substract with my tank with substract, not with yours, and it makes a hell of a difference...

so to keep the tanl cleaner you are not giving the rays what they need

rays spend 80% of their day digging in the subsrate looking for food

if a ray is scared its 1st defence is to cover its self in gravel or sand

it is no harder to clean a tank with substrate than it is bare bottom as you should be doing 2 water changes per week and it takes me no longer to use a gravel cleaner

even when i use the gravel cleaner at every water change it is never dirty as the rays are always turning it over and if your filters are good enoght they will pick up all the crap the rays kick up

rays need substrate and i hate to see any ray on a bare bottom
 
substrate is optional, i was thinking about removing my sand, because it keeps f'ing up my hang on filter, i didn't completely remove it but about half, if you want just throw a bag in there to make tikarman happy

sorry richard but like i told you before, there is no sand coming in this tank...

but know that wen they grow and go to the breeding tanks, there will be penty of sand:naughty:
