no need for you to apologise for anything asking questions about something and doing your research is a good thing and the whole point to places like this where we can share our knowledge.

no no ... what size do you plan on buying...
i wouldent recomend under 5-6"

a 75 should be good for a while, but motoros are the larger kind of rays and get very very large

You are saying no no to GR8.. saying a 180, like it's too big.... Then you say a 75 gallon. I honestly think that is horrible advice. I'm so tired of seeing people getting red tail catfish and they have them in a 30 gallon but soon they are gonna move them to a 75 then to this tank then this one etc... I would not even tell someone who is thinking about getting a motoro they can get away with a 75 gallon and have that start being in their head. I have two in a 55 right now for the last week or so.. One disk 5" and one disk 6" the only reason they are in there is to make sure they would be eating healthy. There is a 180 waiting for their arrival already cycled. Even at 9-10" the 24" width is the smallest I would put them in. There eventual home will be something 36" wide or a pearls of paradise. I am not tryin to call you out Rayman I am just getting tired of people putting there fish into tanks that are too small or at least starting an unreasonable fish in a tank way to small without the intentions of ever keeping it till half its possible size. Ex. 99% of the people who buy RTC. I know people start fish in smaller tank for ease of feeding but I think most don't have the resource to provide a big enough adult sized tank. Sorry if this is mixed up I typed a sentence or two over the course of an hour or so. Ex. 99% of the people who buy RTC.

Hey Nic.. we all started somewhere, huh?

bump for not having the ability to learn anything over a 3 year period since we are all just ignorant children. :D

Sorry for being a jerk.. funny we are pals now :D

So he has been keeping rays for about 3 years now? very nice. :)

How about you miles?

Thanks to Miles, I have been keeping rays for about a month and a half...I hope I am as good as Nic 3 years later......On the other hand, I think Miles is half stingray...lol

haha i thought Nic was joking when i read the first post until i seen the date:ROFL:

its funny we all started somwhere, when i got my first Leo i looked in the aqualog and it states that Leo's max out at 16" so i thought great my Leo's will be fine in my 5x2x2 for life:screwy: needless to say after about 4 months i upgraded:ROFL:.

This thread cracks me up... I jumped down Nic's throat for not using the search function.. now we are buds and make jokes about it all the time.

I have only been keeping my reticulata for 1 year - I am a n00b, and I know it.. I do read ALOT and do tons of research and don't hesitate to comment or help.. kinda funny people think I am some sort of ray expert but in the scheme of things I don't know much at all.. I think it has alot more to do with how often I post and when I do post, I try to post content that is relevant.. I take alot of pride in my post count in the fact that I have never given a 1-liner reply like 'hey nice ray'..

When I joined this forum in '05 I was importing rays from Peru and was seeking info and vendoring them here.. I've came a long ways, as have many others.. I bet Gr8Karma's post about '180 gallons' would be different these days with all the conversation we've had about ray sizes.
