Mounting a fan in a canopy....blowing into or out of??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've got 4 pc fans mounted on top of my canopy towards the back of it on my 150. The outside fans are pulling air into the canopy, and the two middle fans pull air out. They are starting to get a lil noisier now, so I will have to upgrade them, since they have been running continuously now for 2 years

Thats kinda like the ones i already have....they have that same kinda power wire that plugs to the wire coming from the fan.

Yeah, I've seen the Coralife ones you are talking about, they work well. You just paid like twice as much as you had to, and if you doubled down an fans more than that.

If you don't put equal sources of input and output there will a drag on the flow (in liquid terms it's why we have holes in the other end of gas cans) which will make your fan not work as well.

You could always just cut some slots into the sides, you wouldn't have to worry about matching colors on the vents and it will still give it that clean louvered look. You don't really need fans intaking air, as the exhaust fans on top will create suction inside the canopy and pull the outside air into the canopy from the sides and vent it out of the top.

That was my thought at first...do you think one fan sucking 30cfm out the top in the middle of the 6'x18" foot print would be enough to keep it dry in there. I would put maybe 4 1" holes on the back (not the sides).....heat is not an issue at all...its just at night it gets rather wet in there. I would probably have the fan come on after the lights are off....

Yeah I know buying the fans like I did are more costly...but when I get them they are done and wired and ready to go. They also came with the grating to cover the blades. On top of all that I got to use my work CC for the purchase so it didnt cost me anything :headbang2

I can definitely respect someone wanting to spend more for their preferred way, as I catch a lot of flack for buying the more professional looking things when you can DIY something cheap. When I DIY, it's usually just as expensive as normal stuff because I have to overdo it!
