Hello,

I ordered a red wolf a couple days ago and it had mouth injuries I was hoping clean water and salt would do the trick but it seems to be getting worse. It is swimming kinda funny and kinda just floats around. This is my first wolf so I was wondering if that kind of swimming is normal? I've seen very active red wolves on YouTube.

Tank size 55g
Ammonia and nitrite is at 0, nitrate is around 10
Temp 82 degrees

Housed with 6in scomb and 5 in hujeta and two baby bichir 4in
The wolf is 5in.

Thanks

Do you have any hospital tanks to treat him with? I'd probably start by adding salt. kno4te kno4te is better with this kind of stuff than me.

My friend is setting up a 40 gal breeder right now with cycled media to house it, hopefully we can move it there soon and start treatment if needed. I just did a water change too

Looks like he's been jumping, that doesn't happen from one time. It could get to the point where he knocks hisself out or gets dizzy which could explain why he's swimming funny.

Hard to tell what happened. Suspect maybe it got spooked by the scomb and took and hard hit into the tank. The way it looks to me.

With that said. Would move it to the hospital tank like ur gonna do. Add some salt and water. Add floating plants and a log or some place to retreat to. Just want it not to bang into glass. Dim lighting. Looks ok swimming in the second picture.

Is it moving its jaws and drawing water in? Is it opening its mouth to yawn? If not sure then look for signs of this. If it's not doing it then it could be a jaw problem. Give it a week or so before feeding. Can try later with some cut earthworms. It's softer and easier for its mouth to deal with. Watch out for infectious.

It's kind of floating around in my tank while the 40b is getting ready. It seems to be better somewhat better, I've added an air stone and some salt to the main tank till then. As for the jaw breathing, it's closed shut and comes up for air alot.

Wolves are very hardy, you need not worry.. Just turn up the temp and add salt do a few water changes. My aimara periodically gets bashed up by my dorado and heals up completely within ten days to two weeks.

sad to say, but hes on the verge of checking out. he is now pointing his head to the surface of the water in the corner of my tank. i have dimmed the lights and added salt. ill keep u guys updated if anything happens. i just turned off one of my hydor jets to let him rest without current.

Fingers crossed. Didn't know it was shipped like this. Banged up from trip guessing.
