now after looking at your new pics i am convinced you have a pair of livingstoni... the female is definitly but the male looks like it too..definitly to me not a venustus.. glad he is doing better... you should add these photos for positive id.... beautiful fish anyway

oh well maybe the guy i bought them from was right :grinno:

you know more than me so ill trust your judgement :D

i just assumed it was a male venustus as the body pattern is more diamond shape pattern kike the one in the bottom picture.

is his mouth a little clear?? It could be cotton mouth. Just add in some salt and heat. You can use api meds like erithyromycin or something and it should clear pretty easily.

Most of the time, it isn't true fungal infection as often suggested. It's simply bacterial infection that goes away if treated with erythromycin like Ash suggested or anything else designed to battle bacterial infections.

Hate to revive an old thread, but I've been dealing with this same problem the past few days in my planted tank (my aussie rainbows and one of my bosemani's have come down with it)... i added an air stone, some salt, and treated with four days of erythromycin (per the instructions on the box)... they still have it a little bit, does the erythro keep killing it after the treatment is done, or should I go ahead with another treatment of it?

Stick to the erythromycin and do not switch to another med as this will only put its toll on the fish due to its reaction towards a completely different chemical. If it is not proving itself effective, combine that with Maracyn 2 to form a broad spectrum antibiotic that should destroy both of the probable gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
