Move or Sell

Sell it all and re buy new stuff when you're ready. Technology changes, especially with lights. Why not start fresh when you're ready to dive back in? Plus you won't be lugging all that stuff around and storing it.

If you're really undecided, keep one complete setup that your wife is able to maintain when you're away.

One of my tanks has been set up and running in 5 States. I've shipped and transported many tanks over the years. Most recently a 450 from Arizona to Washington. If it's a setup you love, keep it. If it's not, don't.

Thank you all for your input. I still need to talk with the wife, but I think I am leaning toward selling all of the tanks (maybe hold on to one), but keeping the majority of the equipment. I feel pretty good about this, as around Christmas last year I took advantage of a good sale and got multiple current satellite+ LED fixtures, canister filters, etc. I might see if there is any interest in the equipment, but unless I get a good offer I'll likely hold onto it.

Others who have input are still welcome to comment. Some of the comments so far have helped me think through quite a bit.

Hello; I have faced a similar issue at times. I have kept as much as I could over the years. As some have stated the technology will likely change, but what works today will work just as well in the future. I have recently gone thru my boxes of old equipment and culled some stuff that was broken or I can no longer find parts for.

I have gravel from the 1970's and one tank from the late 1960's. I have converted old stainless steel lights and more modern (80's and 90's) plastic light/hoods to use LED's. Brass air valves still in use.

My vote is that if you have a place, then store them. Especially if you are fortunate to have an understanding wife. If you decide to sell please post on the forum. I am about 50 miles from Knoxville and will try to buy them on the cheap from you.

good luck

I would keep one tank and set it up with your best fish, when I used to work 70+ hours a week there was nothing more relaxing then taking care of my fish even if it was only a 20 min wc even now as a paramedic when I have a bad day I head down clean my glass, move rocks, deep clean filters fish hate it because I'm messing with their home but it puts me in a nice relax place

I would just sell it all if you don't plan to use them in Michigan.. Think about how much of the stuff may go bad from just sitting around for 3 years, you may end up having to reseal the tanks after sitting empty for that long!!! Just my opinion but it is really up to you and the wife!!!!

I've sold my stock but kept the equipment through multiple moves, given we can't afford to keep losing money selling then re-buying, and Mrs. O is not into fish......

The longest they've stayed empty has been 1 year while finishing the basement though.

My vote is to keep them.

O

I feel like it depends on if there's a fish you really don't want to get rid of. if possible I would keep the equipment you like (filters, leds, pumps, etc.) and sell your tanks. It well be one less thing to worry about when moving. I remember reading a post on here how someone moved their tanks and end up damaging most of them. That would be the worst
