Moved Native Tanks and Disaster Struck!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My friend called me yesterday to let me know that a fish had died 2 or 3 days earlier again. Even though I told her let me know as soon as something dies because it needs to be removed immediately before it causes toxins to build up in the water. I saw 4 dead fish including one of my largest bluegills. It is either "Headshaker" or "Big Blue." Of course this is a tremendous loss. As my friend continued to talk, she said the power has been off for hours for the last few days. There was the answer.

The few native fish that are left are all in a 125. I stood there looking at the few that were left. All of the prior fish survived a disease outbreak that claimed a few and those that survived the diluted medication. These were all the the tough fish that could survive almost anything. The fish that survived being caught, the trip to the tank and of course each others attitude problem. They survived and tolerated me learning that they needed better aquascaping to diffuse aggression. All of their antics that were normal behavior and unusual behaviors.

They survived to die from being dumped on the ground, hitting the concrete and now the power loss. I started collecting these fish since February or March of 2010 and this is what's left. I had a feeling that I would lose these soon. Still cannot move into the new space for a few weeks.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Right now I have been browsing these forums for a couple weeks thinking about setting up my first tank in many years, I took down my last one because I didn't want to deal with moving with it. Unfortunately, this hobby that can be so enjoyable, can become such a pain when life gets in the way, even when things are handled correctly.

I would at the very least get back whatever money you paid this guy, if you don't ask for damages in addition.

Go ahead and set up the tank, it's worth it!!!! One to three tanks is fine for a move. It's having to move everything in one day and extra quick that this became a problem. I had originally planned to take a week to move all of the tanks. Only one to two at a time, since the new space is 3 minutes down the same street. I have wide cinder blocks for stands, so the fish move is extra tedious. I haven't even moved any the blocks yet because the new space is not ready. The only problem I would have with the blocks is making sure they are dropped. Now, one of the admins here had to move a considerable amount tanks not long ago. He had the help/strength to get everything moved.
