Movin' On Up!

I second the sand substrate, especially for a dragon goby. Use pool filter sand. It's rounded and uniformly sized - rather large for "sand", and vacuumable during water changes using a slow flow siphon gravel cleaner.

MTS are your friendin keeping the sand bed from being packed down, and, for my tank anyway, I like the substrate to have a "natural feel". a bit of detrius is attractive to me.

I run an overtheback calfo style overflow to a sump with filter bags over a large bioball reservoir, and also run the biggest eheim canister (2260? It's basically a modded 5 gal bucket).

Thanks for the comments everyone

Came home from work on Friday, tested the tank, and found that it had finished cycling! However, ever since I found this site and discovered Bichirs the Polypterus forum has been calling my name. Since I really don't have room in my apartment for another 4-foot tank, I had to make a decison. Today I took the Goby to the LFS and picked up a young Albino Senegal (currently in QT).

The violet goby was awesome, and when I have more space I'll definately be getting another one, but for now the bichir seemed like the better choice.

One last shot...
