my gf and i are moving into a new building and taking a 240 g tank with us thats currentley in the garage. the tank is 6x2 and 3 feet tall its gona have to go up stairs and stood up, what are your thoughts this is my first move with the tank and the largest i have yet to move. thanks in advance for your help. was thinking a heavy duity dally may be best but am not sure.

Wow, that's gona be heavy. Prob need at least 4 people. My buddy and I moved my glass 125 and I thought that was heavy. Goodluck man!

that's a monstrous move...

a) make sure it fits doorways and turns

b) make sure floor can support the weight

c) you need 4 strong men...not everyone will have two hands on it going up stairs.

d) good luck.

UPSTAIRS???????
first question..... will the subfloor your putting it on hold the weight? i would check on that. im not sure about others but, ive always calculated 8lbs per gal on tanks. thats taking into consideration, tank, stand, water, substrate, etc. so also think of your sump or filter system too. just the 240 equals out to 1,920lbs alone. good luck. i would also fill that thing and let it sit outside for like a week. only my thinking!

Like said above at least 4 young strong guys. The more the better. It's good to use a tag team approach so people can rest. Plan to take advantage of areas to set it down and rest. Have a couple of people just to watch for obstacles and give direction. Fingers and wrists take a tremendous strain, narrow doorways suck.

I don't know what to say. I thought my 125g glass tank was a beast of a move. lol

It might be wise to build a quick frame or something the same dimensions of the tank and practice the move in advance. Which way it has to be flipped, rotated, tilted ect. Nothings worst then having to carry it down stairs because it was turned the wrong way, or having to hold it while someone comes up with a plan on how to round a corner.

It also might be worth renting a pair of glass movers suction cups. They can be worth their weight in gold.

Anyways good luck!

PS: I hope your floor will hold a tank that size.:WHOA:
