Moving 450 glass tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I recently sold my 7x3 glass. Took 7 guys, and two furniture dolleys.

I got a load of pallets and plywood which I laid across the ground so after lifting tank out of room, just rolled it on the dolleys to the van.

Get a van with a tail lift so you don't have to lift into the van also.

If you’re going to pay someone to move it, go with a specialty company. There are companies that specialize in moving pianos and other large items. Personally, I’d fork out the $300-350 for high quality suction cups and find 7 guys. Then use blankets and doleys. The toughest part will be stairs and doorways.

I just moved my 8x3x2 tank. I used 2 furniture dollies and got it in the house by myself. I had a friend come over and we used a hand crank forklift to raise it on to the stand. very easy, just go slow. You can look around at tool rental places and see if they have those forklifts to rent.

Wow impressive !!

I highly recommend investing in some glass suction cups. I bought 4 of them to move my 3/4" rimless 160G tank that weighs in the 500lb neighborhood and could not have done it without them. The last thing you want is to be trying to lower a tank on a surface with fingers underneath. Then plan it out in your head exactly how its going to happen. Take it slow and calculated. I'd get at least 6 guys for a tank that size. I also asked my friends to remove any watches/rings/belt buckles that could scratch the glass. Also, provide beer and pizza!
