moving a 180g glass tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Get some of these and make it easy on you and your buddy...Stairs don't usually have room for 4 guys to move together on...

I agree, slide it as much as possible, on blankets, just don't bump it along...go really smooth...

Warp all the glasses (side and bottom) with bubble wraps and put lots of moving tap at the bottom so you create a relative smooth surface with less friction. put some plywood on your stairs (just leave room for your feet so you can still stand on the stairs to hold it against gravity. make sure you have enough plywood to make it all the way down the stairs. just slide that bad boy down the plywood very slowly (that's why you have to be there to against gravity). a lot easier than carry it down the stairs, just make sure you have enough strength to hold the weight of the tank (~300lb guessing).
make sure the bottom is well protected, lots of padding would help protect the glass.
That's how I moved my 180g square tank down to basement.
Good luck.

attach the base it to a big sheet of plywood, anchor it down w/ and L clip of some sort, and slide the sucka down!

I just loaded mine by myself the other day..... Just slid it over on the stand and set one end on the floor then tipped it up. Tipped it down onto 2 inch PVC cut into 3' sections as rollers.

As far as steps I'de go with the sled idea..... Use plywood or something similar with L brackets or ratchet straps. Make a nice mount on the front or an eyelet and just use a come - a - long. If you don't have anywhere to anchor it just use a 4 by 4 through a door way.

Don't an absence of bodies stand between you and your hobby.....

WARP all the glasses!! huh!??

 didn't even know I made that typo, guess my fingers are still recovering from the move of my tank last weekend.

you get the idea.

I didn't use any L brackets, just tilt the tank slowly and eventually the whole thing will be on plywood, I used about 3 sheets of 4ft long plywood and slide the tank down slowly.
Just make sure you have enough muscle to hold the tank against gravity, many two ppl, that will make it easier and one i the back to keep the tank straight.
