Hi, I have a 8-9 inch flowerhorn in a 75 gallon tank at my house. Right now we are in the process of moving to another house and I have to move him and his tank. I am looking for any suggestions or tips to help in this process without stressing him as much as possible. Anyone else have experience moving a larger flowerhorn and how did they handle the transition? I have 4 tanks running in my house but my fh is my favorite! Any feedback would be helpful.

Just do it all at once. You'll need 6 or 7 five gallon jugs and a five gallon square bucket with a lid. Fill up the jugs with tank water and fill the square bucket up half way try not to disturb the substrate during this. Transport the big guy in the bucket and move the tank. Clean the substrate out once you drain it and it's ready to move. Set the tank back up and empty the jugs in the tank. Fill the rest of the tank up with fresh water and it's ready to go for him. This will be like a 50 % percent water change.

Why would you want to move all that water? Just a 5 gallon bucket with a lid for the fish. Make sure there is plenty of tank water in the bucket to keep the fish submerged and maintain temp you don't want temp to fall too quickly. Put the bucket with the fish someplace that won't get too hot or cold while you are setting up the tank. Don't take all day setting up the tank haha. Drain most of the water out as waste, fill the bucket and put the fish in there and drain the remaining water. You don't need the old water. Do your best to try and get the fresh water to temp, then re acclimate your fh to the new water ( i use airline tubing to drip acclimate) My larger fh hated nets and preferred being picked up bare handed, the net always traumatized them haha.

Your joking right! The reason is Bio after cleaning the tank you lose it. What it's just 35 gallons that insures the tank's stability. What you would rather clean it start all over with just a small culture with the fish risking a hard cycle? He said he wants to know how to move with the least possible stress, not the lazy man's way. Every tank I set up that has been completely re-done gets at least 40% percent water from a established tank. If the tank doesn't get a good culture and is set up with all new water it sets running for a couple of weeks with nothing in it.

Jeebus it is common knowledge the bulk of bbs in a tank reside in filter media with very little in the water column. Would you rather move a filter with a small amount of water in it or would you rather move 35 gallons of dirty useless water?

Gamerpond likes to follow me around on here and fight with me haha. Spreading Internet here say believing every fish related fairy tale and taking pictures of his fish laying on carpet like a bad breeder and keeper. I'm glad you are finally using punctuation and forming real sentences though bud, keep up the good work. Don't think I would ever ask you to help me move anything ever though lol.

For your information no aggression that's not why stop taking this forum on a detour. Classic, trying to belittle a person cause you have nothing further to say. This could be a big bang takes little bang sort of site to you but that's not the case. People post forums for answers you on the other hand avoid questions,.by make up some line that doesn't come close like a bad politician. Stop being the reason why forum's are taken as a joke. You used to inform but now all I see you post is references to info without a link or a disagreement with the majority it seems like.

Dude... you told someone to move about 250 pounds of already dirty water to a new place and then put it back in his tank when he got there. I said it was not necessary I have never ever done that and it seems I am always helping someone move tanks. As for everything you just typed above, I retract the attaboy issued for punctuation because I have no idea what you are on about. Stop derailing

Hmm 35 gallons of dirty water vs a muck absorbed filter. Yeah I would take the water any day. But hauling buckets ain't no thing to me just another day. Besides there's going to be a higher number of TDS using all new water, and a higher number of unwanted waste products using a old filter. Thats just a double negative right there.

You don't clean your filters? I'm sure op has water service at the new place lol no need to hump a bunch of buckets of dirty water. Doing things that are unnecessary and make no sense "ain't no thing just another day" lol wow bud.
