Moving a tank. Help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, I finally got the tank moved down to the basement. No damage. The tank, the helpers and the house are all still standing!

I grabbed a couple of photos with my crackberry. Sorry for the lack of quality.

The tank is a custom built 72 X 18 X 24 by Bow Valley Aquarium in Calgary with dual overflows housing 1 1/2 inch drains and 1 inch returns. I will paint the back tomorrow night and then on Thusday, it will be moved to the stand to start plumbing.

Sure, I have an update.

I painted the back glass on March 31 with Krylon Fusion Gloss Black. The next day I used masking tape and covered the painted area to prevent scratches in the paint. We moved the tank onto the stand that same day.

Over Easter Weekend I did the plumbing. Then I tested the tank, sump and plumbing for water tightness. It passed with flying colors.

On Easter Sunday, I filled the tank, added my sand and rocks, then moved over all the scrubbies I had running on another tank for 8 weeks and turned the heaters on. Last Tuesday, the temperature had stabilized at 79 degrees, so I tested the water, and finding it was good, I added 5 Pseudotropheus Acei juveniles that I had in another tank.

Twice daily water tests were showing that the bio media I had put in the sump was doing its job, so on Saturday I added 6 juvenile Yellow Labs and some Java Fern.

Things are clicking right along. I finished up the doors on the stand yesterday and just have to build the canopy this week. I will snap a couple of pictures tonight and post them.

Here are some photos I snapped tonight.

Overall view of the tank. I still am going to put some trim above the doors of the stand. I also plan on doing a hood and lighting this week.
