any advice for moving a 15in aimara? I need to get him out of my 180g so I can install the 530g in its place. I was thinking of just using a 5g bucket again. He is longer than it is wide but figured he can be at an angle. Just need to fish him and get him into the temporary 40g breeder. I don’t want to pay $50 for a pond net to use it twice.

Also planning to keep him in the 40g breeder for 1-2 weeks max. Just enough time to get the 530g up and running. I can put all my bio from the 180g and do every other day water changes. Anyone think that’s a bad idea? Will be a pain to drain and re-setup the 180g.

Personally I would find a big rubber maid tub. I wouldn't put a 15in fish in a 40b.

I usually use a old pillow case to catch fish like this. I lower the water a good bit.

Should work temporarily.. sometimes big fish are in the store in smaller containers for longer than 2 weeks .. I'm not sure though how you can have money to buy, set up and maintain a 535 gallon tank but not have money to get a net.. you will eventually need the net again if you ever want to move or take out fish from a 535 gallon tank..

I used a regular net for my black wolf and into a cooler for transportation instead of a bucket. Work with what you have though. I think it'll be fine in the 40 for the week or 2. Probably will fast as well due to the move.

Out a big weight on that 40 lol....
Pillow case sounds better, he could jump from a bucket.

There will be one fish in the tank and it will be him. Once this tank goes up, it’s not coming down anytime soon. Most the nets I found are $50-60 and he will out grow them in a year. I can afford the tank because I’m careful about not wasting money on one time stuff.

Well if the fish is 18 inches already .. he most likely is not going to get as big as one in the wild if that's what your thinking

Hoping for around 30-36in. Largest one I know that was grown in an aquarium was like 31-32in but that took 8 years.

We don't truly know their life span so look forward to it going into the new tank.
