Moving an established tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have moved my large tanks with semi expensive fish in them ... the only thing ive ever done is save the bb in the filter media , hauling water is just a pain in the keester and theres really no useful bacteria in it anyway . so i guess i agree with everyone else lol . Good luck !

Sounds like youre on the right track. I wouldnt bother with transporting any more water than you need to move the fish. I would use water from the other tanks either, youll just have to change it out in a bit anyways. I just moved some tanks around in the house and just used it as a chance to do a 90% water change. I'll also be doing it the same way when I switch from my 60 to a 120 I got for free!
Oh and BTW welcome aboard. These guys here at MFK are a great source of info.

Dangit! Thought mine was a good deal..you sure can't beat FREE!!

Congrats!

I can't even find a good deal around here! I'm looking for a free 120, if anyone has one in the Gainesville area!

and yeah, welcome. didn't even notice you were new.

Skip the water from your own tanks. You might have pathogens in them that the other fish have not yet been exposed to. Consider keeping some gravel to seed the tank one you start it up (maybe put it in a mesh bag and hang from the lid). Do this temporarily as the gravel will have some beneficial bacteria as well.
