Moving Fish Tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would put them on a trailer or in the back of a truck. The 180 is the one to work on most. Use pads on bottom. Where ever straps are going everywhere on the tank. Two straps holding the tanks down tight into pads then around the bottom bunch up tight the pad and screw a piece of wood onto the floor so they cant slide. They don't need to be crazy tight. Just tight.

Thanks guys. forgot to mention Im just moving a few miles away, most concern about storing the fish while I move the tank and re enforce the stand. Also keeping the Bio alive in my canisters

Keep the fish and bio in buckets when moving. If the fish are too big for buckets, use a rubbermaid garbage can to hold fish. Keep the bio media wet. get as many ppl as you think are needed to lift and move tank.

I have moved tanks a short distance by putting fish in buckets and draining as much water out as possible. Take out all your decorations and off you go. The curved sides of the bucket seem to prevent injury. I also use some type of Stress chemicals.

By using all the old Filter medium and the left over water in the gravel the tank will come right back, in that you should not have to cycle. Any extra bucketsP1011343.JPG can be used to bring some "used water" too.

A trick I've learned is to place a large contractor grade hefty bag in the container you will be moving the fish in. That way you can tie off the bag and avoid having water splash all over the place.

I can't beleive i didn't think of this when I moved mine, would have saved me mopping out the moving truck. Will definitly remember that next time!
