I was dropping a hint here..I want to ste...er.."Copy" your sand filter's design.
so I would like to know how it's made?
I have the Omni filter, I need to understand how you keep the sand inside it, and how you keep it from packing?

Ok if you remove the top of the filter and flip it over theres is a short tube that stick out. Its just smaller then 3/4 " in diammeter. All you will need to complete is a short section of rubber hose that will slide tightly over this 3/4 tube on the lid as well as slide over a piece 3/4 pvc pipe that has been cut to a length that reaches the bottom of your filer. You can drill holes around the bottom of this pipe to make a diffuser and spread the flow out. Then fill with sand I first tried straight play sand but found some of it to be to heavy. So Through washing the sand through a fine mesh net I was able to collect only the smaller/lighter sand grains. For my next one I will just try some silca sand. To put the sand in I had the tube in place and poured the sand around it then put the lid on lining up the rubber hose/coupler on the lid with the 3/4 pvc. The lid is labled with the in and out ports. These will now be reversed. Use the OUT as the in. Put a ball valve to controle the flow. thats it.

Ill put up pics when I put together another one soon.

The filter is only filled about 1/2 way up with sand. When it starts to float or fluidize it expands. If it has too much presure it will blow out sand. You need to throttle it back with a valve untill you get the right amount of presure to fluidize the sand but not blow it out.
