thanks for the link! the last paragraph says that it can be effective for treatment of certain infections, and that it can help for long term maintenance. but, like pretty much everything in fishkeeping, that it shouldn't be a set rule for everyone to follow all of the time no matter what [at least that's what i got out of it]. i use it as a first resort to catch things like bacterial infections before they get big. the amount i keep in my tank is a little under that "1 tbsp per 5 gallons", and i always check compatibility of all of my fish before changing anything in a tank, including before i started adding the salt. have never had anything go wrong in either of my tanks, and the only fish i've lost [my oscar] was not of an unknown cause [he lodged himself under my driftwood and got stuck...]. it also proved effective in treating one of my puffers the time he had some fuzzy stuff growing on his eye. took him out of the tank, hospitalized him with salt and heat, it was gone within two days and i kept him out for four to be safe. so i think i'm doing it right at least.. lol
