Hi everyone,
I am getting ready to move my flowerhorn to a larger tank but I have run across a potential problem:( The net I have is a little smaller than my flowerhorn. I have never mover a fish this size and I will have to go to another room while my husband does it because my anxiety is through the roof.

My question is can I safely use the net even though it is a little small? If not any ideas on how to get this guy out safely would be much appreciated!

Thank you all for any suggestions.

Can you use a plastic bowl or similar item that is large enough to hold him? You should be able to gently guide him into the bowl using the net.

I can do that I just didn’t know if he would be ok in a large mixing bowl on his side, like I said small fish seem easy to me but a fish that is about a foot big really scares me! Lol

He should be fine since you are just moving him from one tank to another. Just cover the container with your hand so he doesn't jump out.

Use the largest container you can comfortably fit in the current aquarium to move him. A bucket would work great as Jason suggested but may not fit in the tank.

You should only need enough water to cover the fish and keep him wet, no need to make the container any heavier than it needs to be.

Ok thank you for the solution to my problem:) I have one other question and I maybe should have made a new thread but I will ask anyways. I got the larger tank from a friend, it needed a good cleaning which I did. His fish, Oscars and a few other fish in there were all healthy and looked great. After I cleaned with hot water and scrub pads and rinsed off all the sump and canister parts I filled the tank, once I got everything running some crap came out of the out flow tubes into the tank. I know there were no chemicals on the tank and I think it was just a little bit of stuff in the bulkhead pipes. Should I worry about this stuff? I cleaned all the media with water to get the crud off as I am not worried about the B.B. because I am hooking up my established canister that is on my smaller tank the flowerhorn is in now. This move has really gotten me wound up! Lol

What's the question?

Lol is the crud that came out of the pipes going to be a huge issue? It wasn’t much, looks like diatoms maybe?
