Belgique
Hey guys!

I was happy in my big house, with plenty of room and more importantly a ground level to house tons of water that a higher level cannot...

Alas, my landlady passed, and the house is to be sold. Thankfully, it will take 10 to 12 months, as Belgium is much more protective of people who rent than the US from what I heard.

Either way, I will rent alone, which means apartment and not house, which means no ground level and therefore my 180g will have to go. But we all know there's no way I'll get rid of all my tanks... So I will keep my 90g (350L), and might keep the 100L, but I won't have issues finding a population for that one.

I am therefore seeking for fishes I could populate my 90g with once I move, so I have time.

What I want:
- The tank needs to be planted.
- Filtration will be the one from my 180g, I dislike the built-in of the 90g. That must be enough.

What I would like:
- Predatory fish remain my favorite, I would like some of these.
- It'll be a display tank, as it'll be the only one. Fish need to be either colorful or active (or both).
- A once a week water change would be ideal (Can do anything from 10% to 80%, but preferably once a week).

My ideas so far:
- Pair of Channa Auranti, but those will hide, unroot plants, and while I love the ones I have, I don't know if that'd be a good fish for my only tank as they cannot be mixed.
- Shoal of Exodons, but I have never kept those, and I am fairly certain they cannot be mixed with much.
- Discus, but I know nothing about them as I find them too common and quiet. I would only do wild, though. Water change routine could be a problem?
- A mala, perhaps? Though I'm iffy on tank size and it's still a very sedentary fish.

Fire up your ideas! ;)

Edit: Would that volume do any good in a saltwater? Is the additional cost bad? How bad? I have a pump, the tank, enough heaters to heat my whole apartment, and about 10000l/h worth of powerheads.

Exodons will be nice. Keep with themselves but can try hard sclaled catfish as tankmates.

Mala can be fine in there but solo. You could add fish but will need to be big and then tank size will be an issue. Mala can hit 20 inches but that'll be a long time.

Can't speak on discus.

Red wolf can be kept in a 90g with tankmates. Still predatory but on a smaller scale. Just a thought.

I currently have an Ery Ery fighting for food with the Odoes in my 180. ;D
So depending on what I will put in the tank, he might move with me (or actually be solo in the 100L).

I was afraid Mala would outgrow, these are the dimensions:

Happen to have any "other" ideas? You're kind of a veteran around here, you must have billions of ideas. ;D

Maybe a red tail barracuda they are predatory and active, you can also keep them with plants.

That would be a nice substitution for the Odoes I won't be able to keep... Found them skittish when I kept them, but perhaps a few of them, like Odoes, will change that. I'll keep that one in mind! ;)

I reckon you should save for a house rather than renting and wasting money on fish!

But either way, a big bunch of shoaling fish would be my choice for a planted tank!

I like more of the oddball fish. Especially characins. So for me I would suggest couple of upper jaw polys (2), Large African Brown knife, hydro scombs.

Maybe a pea puffer planted tank.

Tank with 4-5 elephant nose fish and pvc's.

Tank of hill stream loaches and some colorful gobies. Some mild to moderate current on the tank.

Those come to mind.

is the tank 100 gallons or litres? exodons are done best by keeping a massive group, and heavy feeding + heavy waterchanges.

i would also recommend african knives, wonderful fish

What about a small group of channa bleheri, maybe 6 or so

6 is a bit much given that when a pair forms they might just kill the others overnight
