I hope this doesn't anger anyone but I didn't know what other forum to put this in but I am moving from California back to the southwest and want to take my tank and male and female dovii with me. It's about a 16 hour drive and I was curious how to package them for that long of a journey. I'm more worried about the temperature of the water and oxygen in the bags I put them in. Male is about a foot long and female around 7 or 8. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Styro foam coolers for each one....Make sure to bring a portable oxygen pump with you so you can provide them with oxygen...also dont feed them for a couple of days prior to your trip.....when you get to Arizona? setup the tank right away and use the stress coat and water dechlorinator...let the tank cycle for a couple of hours and then add them, cause you dont want to leave them in the styro foam cooler for too long...I think this would work...dovii are hardy fish....keys: Oxygen, and keep water cool..good luck

For a dovii in a 16 hour drive don't get a stryo cooler. Shell out a few more bucks for a decent hard walled cooler or two. Use a third cooler for your filter media to keep it damp and you won't have to worry about a second cycle or anything. It's a lot easier than it seems. Enough oxygen gets exchanged just from sloshing around driving that I highly doubt you'd need a portable air pump. Just stop every few hours and open the top to check on them and you'll be fine.

yea that works also...

:iagree: ;)

I pack fish all over the place :) Last trip was from Portland back to Tricities and then back home.. Took between 14-18 hours total.... And Some were bagged some were in my trusty cooler :)

The only thing I would add is If you can keep the coolers in the cab or in the vehicle with you then the cahnces of temp cahge are less ;) UNLESS you have AC on.. Then I would put the coolers in the trunk :)

I am with Modest on this ;) Packin fish with you on such a short trip is CAKE!! Just my opinion ;)

I'm more worried about moving my tanks if and when that day comes. When I used to move my 55 it was a pain to empty the water and gravel. The fish were the easy part. Now I have a 125, another 55, a 29, who knows how many more by the time I move again? That's gonna be an all day move by itself.
