Moving out in a month.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depending on the size of the aquarium/s, and the distance of the move I usually get a couple large Rubbermaid totes and put water and fish in them. Then transfer everything back once setup at the new place. If it's a long distance move you can either purchase an AC adapter to run an air pump in the totes during the trip(or they sell battery powered ones also!) Hope that helps!

i move my tank multiple times a year. 75 gallon. what i do is transport the fish in 5 gallon buckets. i put the filter pads with the bacteria in another bucket with the gravel. when i set up at the new location i just load new water w/o chlorine and let it circulate and get to the temperature of the buckets.

While transporting the fish i have a air stone running the whole time and try to check on the fish every now and then.

This move is usually a 2 hour drive

It's a 75gal aquarium and I'm not moving far. My substrate I planned on changing figured it would be easier. It's mostly sand and some fluorite. Don't want the fluorite any more. Not doing plants. Any ideas on how to scoop up sand?

If the sand is fine enough it can siphoned w a hose while draining thd water

I'm moving too I have a 10 gal and a 20 gal right now my move is 2 hours away as well

Hello; I moved to a new place a little over two years ago. It was not far and I was able to set up a tank at the new place and have it ready to move the fish into a couple of weeks later. I was able to take material from the established tank to set up the new. The benefical bacteria will be in the filter media, the filter bodies, on the plants and substrate of the established tank. I cleaned the gravel for the new setups but kept some of the old gravel, filter media and plants in buckets with water.

Something to think about, is the water at your new place the same as your old place? When i moved from Texas to Louisiana i went from hard water with a PH over 9 to very soft with a PH of 5-6. i had to look up how to make "african cichlid water" and make batches in a trash can. Since im a firm believer in keeping what lives in your water, i slowly phased out my hard water fish for soft water fish. I used the big food grade brute "trash cans" for my move. Get your filters back up and running asap, i made the mistake of leaving a canister filter turned off for about a week. The smell was horrible when i got around to setting it up, i replaced all the media in it to be on the safe side.
