I tried a search but I must suck at it. How do you all move your rays when needed? The 2 times I tried it I had to trim the net off the stinger and use a bit of melafix. What's the safest way, for keeper and fish, to move them if needed?

Clean Rubber-made trashcan or tote. Use the lid to corral them into it.

Or just grab it by the tail and hope that you are having a good day. :headbang2:naughty:

i ither pull the net tight and use it like a tennis racket, or the best option is to use a container and submerge it and usher the ray into it then lift it out.
the second option is the best if you can get a container large enough for the ray and small enough to fit in the tank. plus you never have to lift the ray out of the water as its always submerged.

I use a large Koi "pan net" tied at the botton to make the net more shallow, to prevent the ray going too far into the net so its tail doesnt go fully in the net. This prevents its sting getting caught, so reduces the risk of you being stung, the ray being injured and makes it generally less stressfull all round.
I hope this helps. GL with the next move.

I cut a 5 gallon bucket down to 10 inches tall that I am using right now. I use a small net to coral them into it. I use a small net because it acts more like a paddle because they can't fit in it. Of course all my rays are under 10 inches. I will soon be looking for a larger container. Lifting a ray out of the water is not fun. They are powerful little boogers and will splash and squirt water everywhere. That is why I use a container.

i use a small trash can for small rays. drill some holes about half way up so when u pull the trash can out, the water drains so u can lift it.

they make large rubber fishing nets, no stingers caught here.

X2.. I use these also and have never had a stinger get stuck yet..
