Moving should I bag or use a container

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with the bag, moved my 16-17 inch jag not too long ago with hefty bags and it went well. She is well behaved tho.. grabbed her face slide her into the bag, never tried to jump or even ran into the side of the bag lol! My fh's are a different story biting holes in the side of the bags right when they get into them :swear:

I use buckets and containers with an air pump. They have power converters for like 15 bucks that go in your cigarette power port.

I've transported fish 500+ miles like this over 12 hour periods. Add a little safe and roll out.

For your fairly short ride, bags or containers will work. I'd suggest using oxygen in a bag or a container with bubbler

large ice chest fine. well hold the temp better, hour not that long. worried about oxygen just agitate the water with you hand, like making bubles as a kid in the tub.

I have used large Rubbermaid and battery powered bubblers many time for transporting. Works great. I inched moved from nj to fl. 22 hour ride. I used a Rubbermaid I ran a submersible fluval using an ac power inverter and a bubbler, that also worked great.

hello; In the past I often carried fish in bags for 6-7 hours from Indianapolis to Harlan KY. I never lost a fish during a trip.

Two things come to mind. One is to have a tank alrasdy set up at the destination. I did this a few years ago when i moved about an hour away. I set up a tank at my new place and my fish were among the last things moved.

Another thing to consider is if the fish are spiny such as catfish. I have had such fish puncture a bag. My solution was to place the bag inside a small styrofoam cooler. I also used large bags with plenty of water and added some water to the styrofoam cooler. This way when the bag was punctured the water level in the cooler kept the bag from emptying much at all.

Perhaps a third thing to consider is that with a bag the fish are to be caught only one time. In an open container they must be stressed by catching them twice in addition to the move to a new setup. They are already in a bag and can be floated in the new setup right away.

Good luck

for an hour trip bag em and go. The nearest fish store to me is 2 hrs and i have never had an issue with this and the biggest fish that i have traveled 2 hrs with was about 5.5".

Diddo man mine is 2 hour drive and I have just put 3-4 fish i disnt want anymore in a ice cream bucket many times and took them there and they did just fine with no problems every tine
