they will ?? i thought that since they get over 10' in the wild i could keep them under 1' in my tank

:banhim::banhim:

YES I KNOW THEY WILL GET BIG

i have a 75 for them now, then a 300-600g tank in the works, then a pond for them. thanks for your concern though

Why ban me ? I was only pointing out something that you might not of known , some people dont know how big they get .

I would love a few for my outside pond but as i have no more room to make the pond any bigger than what it is i cannt get any .

the "ban him" was just a joke, and i understand that some people do not know ...

sorry :)
as for keeping sturgeons, i think they are underrated, especially the smaller sterlets. way too many people bash them on this site ... they stay smaller than the TSN and RTC that are popular, yet noone gets flamed for keeping the big cats

Ok sorry i had just got in from work had a bad day sorry i took it the wrong way .

It will work just fine, just did that with my newly set up 125g. Moved all the media from the 75g. I didn't use the 75's substrate though and I was running the new filters on the 75 for approx a week before setting up the new tank. I didn't use any of the 75g's water. The fish are all happy!

i kinda did this when i moved house, the tank was the last thing to go so on the am i sorted the fish out into boxes, buckets etc with their own tank water, used a spare bucket of tank water to put the filter pipes into and let the filter circulate the water out of the bucket. the only time it was turned off was when it was in the car being taken to my new house. when it came to setting back up i put a load of air stones in the transport buckets to help oxygenate the water.
then i sorted my decoration and gravel out and heaters etc. next i half filled the tank with cold and hot water til my thermometer read near enough the same as the water in with the fish, next i put the fish into the tank and tipped the old water in with them. then i set up the filter and started it away again. job done - no losses and colours came back within half hour so i was pleased.

also a question about sterlets since you guys were on about them, are they strictly cold water or can you acclimatise them to share tropical waters with my oscars like you can with goldfish?
