Mr Dovii gets a little rough on his first date

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think gravel allows the fry to get stuck and suffocate...Sand or BB are better options. Just leave the lights low, and stay away from the tank for the most part. I have had great success covering at least one half of the tank to create the "cave effect" Dovii seem to calm way down when I do this (not trying to sound like I think you do not know what you are doing).

I would take a thin layer of gravel over sand any day when breeding large fish. The cave thin maybe but than he loses the viewing pleasure of them being under the light

Meh...The cave can be removed whenever necessary. If breeding is the main goal, viewing is secondary IMPO. Everyone has their lil tricks of the trade, Bastard is a far superior keeper when compared to me. I am not trying to discredit (you)him.

I think gravel is better, gives fry places to hide.

The wriggling state is where I have found problems with fry and gravel. As long as the aggregate is pretty small, it is no problem.

great video you have there - he seems so disappointed when she left...

Yeah, he's so eager and she's being coy. ;)

Thanks for the feedback on substrate guys. Gives me some ideas to consider when I move this tank.

I really want to be able to capture pre-spawn and spawn behaviour with my camera, so I don't want to completely close off the tank. It is the reason why I will always have plants overhead. I also want them to breed so I'll have to find a compromise. :)

Nice pair. They will spawn soon.

The male is a beast! What size tank are they in?

ahh love in the air or water in this case. Man that male is a good looking fish , its funny how she is kind of teasing him.
