Mudskippers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i know bruce had some. funny thing is a lfs here has some too and i thought about it but just don't have the tank space...

almost bought one once, but im done with amphibians lol...
their pretty cool, they look like those evolution slides where the fish start crawling out of the water lol.

There was a thread on here that mentioned a mudskipper setup that raised and lowered the water levels on a timer. It was a wicked set up. For the life of me I can't remember what thread it was in though, it was kind of a random post.

this should probobly be moved to the saltwater or brackish thread section

Mudskippers are brackish fish. Don't get them unless you have a brackish set up for them. They'll die otherwise.
Also be careful about tank size. Africans (the most common species) can get kinda big, and they're territorial. If you get more than one, you definitely need multiple places for them to call their own.

I totally agree. Below is a link to an old build I did for Africans and I had to seperate them and start over. At about the 6" mark they decided to get all "Chuck Norris" on each other... :irked:

They are a really fun fish to have and one of the most active and enjoyable in my house. I would only recomend them for anyone that can commit to a species only/brackish tank.

Have been building a better setup and I am only about 50% finished but below is a sneak peak of the new digs before I post the completed build. :naughty: SPEAKING OF PICS, GO TO POTM AND LEND A GUY A VOTE! #2

Ehiem Pro II, oversized wet dry, Eheim 2217 hooked to the sump. (can't flow enough water evenly over the drip tray without it)

they are definitely worth the pickup if willing to accomodate their needs for land and brackish water. I've had them on two occasions and find them to be very comical and hardy fish, and will eat any food, including pellets

i had one for a couple of years.. they are awesome..and i am always tempted to try another.. they do best in their own species tank.. love to swim and sun bathe..water should be only about half way up.. they like it humid.. brackish water.. they eat blood worms and other small food.. keep top well covered .. to me they are the cutest little guys..well worth it.

A tank with mudskippers and archers would make an interesting large display, being able to accodate for some of the archer's special ability to spit water.
