Multiple Angel Deaths...Your theory...

fry you don't know what you're talking about, moving a cycled filter from one tank to another is going to give you almost no bacteria die-off at all, less than cleaning the filter.

If you move a cycled filter straight away from one tank to another, the new tank is cycled.

It's the FILTER that cycles and stores the bactera, not the tank. You get some beneficial bacteria on surfaces in the tank, but nothing compared to a biofilter. IT's the filter that does the work.

And yep, what rally said. It's essentially like doing a 100% waterchange. As long as the water is dechlored, you're good to go.

Probably due to the big waterchange, thats why when I move fish(esp. delicates like angels)I move water from the tank theyre in then the fish then fill the rest of the way with fresh. Why put the fish through an acclimation when you dont have to?

Oh, good point. I added 10%ish of the "old" tank water after filling it up with dechlorinated water...well Thanks all i know what to do next time

ph shock? i lost a few of my angels moving them wheni checked the ph is was differnt in each tank not by much but it was different

Spot on BUT Adding tap water with chlorine or chloramine to a tank can kill off fish quickly. It can also kill off the bio-filter bacteria that keep your tank healthy, did you decorate the water if not as good as starting a new tank

Yeah i dechlorinated it and let it age for about 5 hrs (not very long...but i figured it was already dehchlorinated it so i just airated it to get up the O2)

oh and the fish i put in 24 hrs before the others to "test the water" died 24 hrs after the other three....leaving one angel remaining

Sorry that’s should read dechlorinate your water as its as good as starting a new tank :D dyslexia and:swear: typing what chance have I got.:screwy: have you done a full water test? what the water like?

Okay, if I have followed this you used a fairly small but healthy filter in the new, somewhat larger tank.
I agree that this is not a cycling problem, the whole point of cycling is to build up an adequate bacterial population in the filter.
I think the problem was stress from the move, added to what is possibly inadequate aeration from the filter in the tall, larger tank, added to a fairly rapid rise in temp (5 1/2 degrees F in 12 hrs?) which further lowered the O2 level. You did say the fish were gulping/gasping?. This would effect the larger fish first.

They were actually moved to a smaller tank, but they were gasping...and yeah the big ones did die first
