I've heard numerous reports of people raising two Arowana's together. I'm trying to figure it out, as most information on this is scattered online with a few sentences here and there.

Basically, I know that it's better to do them while they're young. Also, you need a big tank. Also, it's good to introduce them to the tank at the same time. Now, that's for raising two Arowana's in the same tank. (By the way, I'm talking about Silvers).

Now, the general rule I've read is that you need to have at least 5 to spread the agression. I'm trying to figure out how to have two silvers together, and if there's any good thread or page to read over about it. Also, I wonder who here has successfully done it!

i mixed 3 silvers together.they nip each other fins often but no serious injuries before.
i think its possible if you buy them at a young age and both are about the same size.some LFS has silver aros swimming together in dozens in 1 tank at a time,so just pick out 2 of them and put them together.actually it all depends on luck,sometimes they fight,sometimes they wont,if you are not worried about tattered fins,broken tails or loss scales i guess its ok to mix them together.if you are those that cannot take it when you aro gets broken finnages or scale loss or bruises den i suggest keeping 1 in a solitary tank.also considering tank size,if both are still young abt 4-7 inches you still can keep them in a 100gal,but when they get bigger you gotta give them more room because they are territorial will tend to fight more if there is insufficent space.

Well... words are not everything until you try them out yourself. Not every two aro are the same thus it boil down to giving it a shot to find out the answer.

Just do a search, a more extensive one, at MFK arowana forum...lots of us have comm's....

I have a 30 inch silver a 26 inch silver and a 24 inch blue living happy together in a 300.I had another blue and a small jar in the mix but they did not get along.It all depends on the fish.

Do you think a 220 gal tank would be large enough for 3 baby Blacks???

Yep, I do:)

I have a 30" silver and added a 24" silver without any issues. Never the slightest bit of ill will between them.

My attempts at housing two silvers together;

In Feb of 2006 I got two 3.5" silver aros, both came from the same tank at the LFS. Soon as I put them together they in my tank (55g) they fought. I grew them seperately and tried numerous times to get them together. After 4 months I sold one of the two.

In April of 2007 I tried to mix the original silver I had (then 16") with a 12" black arowana. Same thing they fought after being in the tank together for only a couple hours.

In May of 2007, I put the original silver (18") in with a 21" silver. Never any aggression between the two and they have been together ever since.

It is hit and miss with pairs, may have something to do with the sex of the fish. Unfortunately it is impossible to tell male from female, so no help there. If you do attemt to mix two silvers make sure you have a way to seperate them before attempting.
