not sure this is the right place to put this

anyways

i was wondering if multiple bettas can be kept in a single tank

im talking 6 or more in a 12 gal to diffuse the aggression for example

is this possible?

i know alot of fish wont get along if you have 2 or 3 together unless you get em in a large group or 6-12

like aro's and atf's for example

I don't think so!
A few years ago, i recived a big female group, so i put them in a 50gl tank! that was a massacre!!!! :WHOA:
They were all juvenile betta imbelis! males of course!
I only noticed two hours late! I lose 15 rare fish (rare, here in brazil)!

Males can't be housed together, but females on the other hand...I've done that before. Females can be put together. They don't have the long fins like males do, but you can find some pretty nice colored females now a days.

A group of 4+ females can be kept together. It doesnt work all the time though, it really depends on the bettas, so you have to keep an eye on them in case things don't work out.

Yah I had a few jumpers who jumped the tank and I ended up having all 4 in one little cubical thing and yah they shreaded eachothers fins and then I got them before they can kill eachother, prob not the best idea

im asume that the advice that all of you are giving me is from what your read but have any of you had experience or heard of someone who have done this?

ok here what my set up would be like. . .

a layer black sand

river stones

one of those fancy giant bamboo plants

and some bog wood for more cover

i would think that with plenty of cover, space & food i can be done

i guess ill have to try alittle experiment

also if you bothered reading my post it was a personal experience but they were kept in small space but they decided to jump to one section and if I didnt catch it they prob would have killed eachother, instead they just got ripped and nipped here and there but they are healing now, so yah I would think its a bad idea. but if you try I wanna know how it turns out.

I think space is the key. In something larger, like a 55, you could probably get away with 2 or 3 males if there were plenty of plants and hiding places. Even then you there would be no guarantees that it would work.

In a 12 gallon tank, I don't think it will work. But it would be interesting to see what you find out if you try it.

females can be kept together but its a one male per tank deal.

In my area, I've never seen a healthy betta. They always put them in those little jars with only a few ounces of water. They are always dead or dying. All the stores do it. Sad really.
