also if you bothered reading my post it was a personal experience but they were kept in small space but they decided to jump to one section and if I didnt catch it they prob would have killed eachother, instead they just got ripped and nipped here and there but they are healing now, so yah I would think its a bad idea. but if you try I wanna know how it turns out.

yes i read your post before ash

it seem everyone on here is either talking about keeping two male together or having a group of females together

and NOT a group of males

oh well i guess ill find out myself

wish me luck

A few years ago, i recived a big female group, so i put them in a 50gl tank! that was a massacre!!!! :WHOA:
They were all juvenile betta imbelis! males of course!
I only noticed two hours late! I lose 15 rare fish (rare, here in brazil)!

Okay, then how did you "receive" them? Were they all individually bagged, or did they peacefully co-exist in the bag but started fighting in your tank?

Just curious,

It has been done. You have to find young ones, preferably take a bunch of males out of a spawn and put them in while they so small they still arent aggressive. And put more in than u think nessicary to aggression and take out the ones that getting picked on alot. You would have to have TONS of plants and decor, so they cant see from one side or end of the tank to the other, that way they can have own territorys and not always see rivals. I have wanted to do this too, you probably will never find people who say it is a good idea or will work though. I will try to find the site where the person successfuly did it... just make sure u get them as YOUNG as possible.

You don't want to keep more than one betta in a tank trust me. The dominate one will have it's true colors while the ones that got beat up or are scared will turned into a very ugly tan color with a large stripe on it's side. Not very good looking at all and not to mention they'll be all ripping at each other. I've seen crazy people put a lot of bettas in the same bowl and it becomes a royal rumble..... :clap

I theory if can almost be done male bettas in the same tank that is. If you have bettas in seperate containers alfaceing each other for 6 mounths to a year. I would try nomore 4 total. This a theor based on research I have done. The bettas will after a while learn that they can not get the other bettas so in turn will learn not to try. This may work but not something that I will say will 100% with out a doubt work.

My cousin in Thailand breeds bettas and he said as long as you don't separate them from birth, they should get along for the most part. But then again, he raises them in those giant ceramic pots. And I doubt he see everything that goes on in there. He also raises them to fight...along with roosters and he has a femal pit bull (I don't know if he breeds her). I don't condone it, but it's Thailand and I don't know how things work over there.

Bettas can be kept together, I was once given a 45g long tank (48"x 12"x 18"), that contained 4 male betas and 4 females as well as a swarm of rasboras and danios, and some kuhli loaches. The tank was heavily planted with elodea and pygmy swords. Each male betta had a small open space that it claimed as a personal territory. There were a few scraps but nothing fatal. I had the tank for over a year and when I gave it away the fish were doing fine. The bettas and danios bred fairly regularly but no fry ever survived long.
