Multiple pairs of Convicts?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hope i dont have your problem i'm getting 3 pairs tomorrow to breed for feeders. i have a baby alligator that sure eats alot and i hate giving them nasty gold fish.

I had a female in a 25gal and added two males. She picked one right away and I feed the looser to my TSN. Two days later they started guarding their cave like crazy so I think they might have already laid some eggs. I can't see in there very good though.

Ok...here is the progress; it seems as expected, the bigger male/female paired...although I am not entirely sure as I have never breed cons before. Nevertheless I can attest that unlike the previous pair, they arent tearing each other apart.

They are however beating the crap out of everybody...everybody else is at the top or hidden beneath the filter. Again, the total count is 2 males, 4 females...

I also put on a temporary divider for some platies my LFS gave me to feed my recent Florida Gar purchase (i know i know, it was a freebie first batch)...Anyways, you are not going to believe this; one of them actually dug a whole underneath the divider ( I have sand ), and snuck in...long story short, I wake up in the morning and find a damn massacre. Somehow, I found a bunch of platies onto the convicts side and you can just picture it.

Anyhoo, my plan is this...the first pair that lays egg, I am getting everybody else except the mates. Plan on returning them or donate them... So far no eggs...smaller cons are still alive but a bit beat up.

Let me know if you want pics...

course we want pics, i wanna see this full black female, would be a great pair up with my pale blue male. lol

Haha, your story makes me smile. I most definately do believe it btw. I had just as much trouble getting mine to spawn (also feeding a gar). Deviders just don't stop those suckers. Mine would dig under, squeeze around, jump over, etc. I ended up taking the aggressive males out for a while then reintroducing them. Easy my ***.

don't have any male cons, but I have two females cons and they are total tramps, always trying to hook up with somebody . . . one of 'em is in my 30G, laying eggs with a Firemouth . . . the other is in my 90G, laying eggs with my Carpintis . . . so, they do seem pretty easy so far . . .

a pre-emptive footnote: I am NOT breeding them, I'm just not stopping them . . . and no progeny - - if there is any - - from these pairings will ever get outside my doors :)
