Hi! I have these small puff balls floating around my tank. They look like dandelion seeds when you blow them and they fly. Except they are flying in my tank.

I have a 55 gallon tank, Filstar xp2 canister, small 20 AC, and the tank is still cycling. Its in its 2 1/2 week now. I know I have ammonia and high nitrites.. could this cause the small floating puff balls?

Also, Ive always wondered why my fish arent active. All they do is hide behind rocks all day long, except when I feed them. After that, they just stay in the rock caves I made them. Arent they supposed to be usually active?

What do your water tests read?

Could they be rotting food particles?

Might be food thats getting old, I feed my fish shrimp about twice a day and one day I did a w/c and nocked over a peice of drift wood and there was about 20 peice of nasty shrimp under there that looked like puff balls.

do you have left over food in your tank? It sounds like you might be over feeding the fish and left over food maybe going bad. Over feeding can cause a bunch of problems with your water.

I probably overfed... then why do they look like puff balls? The live worms usually go under gravel... but i use salt to get them out so my fish can eat em. The spirulina disks are always left over...

How can I get rid of it? Its pretty nasty to see chunks of fungus floatin around the tank

Its kinda hard to get every little speck of fungus floating around.. Any other way?
